Prairie dog hunting in South Dakota is so much fun! With no seasonal restrictions and no daily limits, you can shoot until your gun overheats, switch weapons and keep right on going, all day long! Dakota Prairie Lodge & Resort partners with local farmers who are thrilled to have help thinning out the prairie dog population as these varmints ruin their fields with hundreds of holes and a network of underground tunnels. What to Expect

Expect to pull the trigger a lot!! Depending on the weather and your style of shooting, you will likely fire between 100 to 300 rounds per day. Bring as many rifles as you want, and bring plenty of ammo. We have several styles of shooting benches, and we also have mats if you'd like to shoot from a prone position. Silencers are welcome :)

Gear & Equipment

We have benches, mats and gun rests. You need to bring the rifles and ammo. If you need help finding ammo, please let us know and we will assist you. We offer a small selection of rental rifles, and we have ammo available for sale for those guns.

Weapon Details

Some of our hunters can shoot 1000 yards but most folks have a comfort zone around 300 yards. Depending on your equipment, you can let us know what is your best range. Most common rifles are 17, 223, 243, 22-250, and 6.5, but bring anything you like to shoot. Even if it isn't necessarily for prairie dogs, we can shoot at targets off the deck so feel free to bring along your favorite 50 cal gun too.

Pricing Details

All-inclusive package for $700 per person per day includes all food and beverages, lodging, field transportation, sporting clays, and full access to all lodge amenities such as fire pit, laundry, gym, smoking room and great rooms that feature pool tables, darts, poker tables, fussball, ping pong and well-outfitted bars.

For September and October hunts, combo packages are available with pheasant, duck or dove hunting. For spring and summer hunts, combo packages are available with walleye fishing. Please call for details.

Non-hunting companions are welcome for $250 per person per day.

Terms & Conditions

50% deposit required to secure dates, non-refundable and valid for three years.

If the weather does not cooperate during your hunt, we can offer you an alternative day of walleye fishing or make other accommodations that fit your needs.

Camp/Accommodations

Please see several pictures of the Lodge in the photo gallery. The Lodge can accommodate 40 hunters on two levels so different groups can mingle or lounge separately. There are two great rooms with well stocked bars, poker and pool tables, fussball, ping pong, big screen TVs and comfortable couches. We also have a gym, laundry room, salon, smoking room and business center. The dining room leads out to the deck, and from there you can oversee the sporting clay course and the fire pit. Relax and enjoy!

Non-resident varmint license is $40 and is readily available on the Game, Fish & Parks website.
