Description
The Maine Grouse Camp Weekender offers a shorter version of our traditional camp experience without turning it into an ordinary day hunt.
Guests arrive Thursday evening for dinner and an introduction to camp. Friday and Saturday are spent hunting wild grouse and woodcock behind our pointing dogs. Following Saturday's hunt, we'll return to camp, clean and package any birds, and allow time to change, gather your belongings, and say your goodbyes before departing Saturday afternoon.
It is an ideal choice for hunters with limited time, first-time grouse hunters, or returning guests looking for a concentrated weekend in the Maine woods.

Gear & Equipment
The basics include:

Maine weather can change quickly. A beautiful October morning can become cold, wet, windy, or snowy before the day is over.
Good boots and good rain gear are worth bringing.
We recommend wool and synthetic clothing rather than cotton.
Weapon Details
We strongly prefer break-action shotguns around our guides, guests, and dogs.
Side-by-sides and over-unders are both excellent choices - which one you carry is really a matter of personal preference.
A lightweight 20-gauge is ideal for many grouse hunters, although 12-, 16-, and 28-gauge shotguns can all work well.
We generally recommend No. 6 or No. 7½ lead shot, or an appropriate No. 7 non-toxic load.
If you need to borrow a shotgun or other equipment, talk to us beforehand. We'd be glad to give you one of our loaners.

Two-hunter minimum: $3,790
Private solo experience: $2,750

How Reservations Work

Contact Maine Upland with your preferred dates, number of hunters, and choice of trip.

Once availability is confirmed, a 50% deposit reserves your trip.

Your remaining balance is due at the conclusion of your trip.

Before your trip, we will provide directions, a packing list, meal information, required forms, and additional arrival details.
All hunting and fishing experiences are fair-chase pursuits involving wild birds and fish. Weather, water levels, bird movements, and fish behavior affect every trip; specific opportunities, catches, or harvests cannot be guaranteed.
Availability is limited. Current clients receive first opportunity to reserve the same time slot for next season.

Camp/Accommodations
Eight Miles Off the Pavement. Right Where We Want to Be.
Tucked away on 57 private acres in Maine's Enchanted Pond Wilderness, our camp puts you right in the middle of the country we love.
No traffic. No crowds. Just mountains, woods, wild birds, cold water - and a whole lot of Maine.
Step outside the door and you're already in grouse country. Thousands of acres of productive cover surround us, with remote ponds, rivers, and brook trout waters never far away.
This is our home base. And for a few days, it's yours too.
Rustic. Comfortable. Definitely Maine.
Our main lodge has two private bedrooms, a spacious loft, comfortable beds, woodstoves, a full bathroom with shower, laundry facilities, and beautiful views toward Coburn Mountain.
There's even a cell booster for those moments when you absolutely have to check in with the outside world.
Although we recommend avoiding that whenever possible.
Our guides stay next door in the Grouse House, and the dogs have their own newly built kennel.
Everyone has a place at camp.
Come Back Hungry.
After a long day chasing birds or fishing Maine waters, there's nothing better than walking into a warm camp and smelling dinner.
We take the food almost as seriously as the hunting.
Almost.
Expect hearty meals, plenty of it, good conversation, a warm fire, tired dogs, and stories from the day's adventures.
Some of those stories may even be true.
This Is Grouse Camp.
Wake up in the North Woods.
Drink your coffee while looking toward the mountains.
Hunt wild birds behind good dogs.
Come home tired and hungry.
Eat well. Sit by the fire. Laugh about the ones you missed.
Then wake up and do it all over again.
That's camp.

Please let us know in advance about allergies, medications, significant medical concerns, mobility limitations, or anything else that could affect your safety or comfort during the trip.
We're not being nosy - it simply helps us plan responsibly and take better care of our guests.
Physical Requirements
How physically demanding are the trips?
Grouse hunting can involve considerable walking on uneven logging roads and through thick young forest.
Fishing may involve wading, climbing in and out of boats, walking to remote water, or navigating uneven terrain.
You don't need to be an athlete, but please be honest with us about mobility limitations, balance concerns, health considerations, or your preferred activity level.
We can adjust many trips to accommodate our guests, and advance notice helps us choose the right covers, waters, and pace.
Permit & Tag Application Process
Are hunting and fishing licenses included?
No.
Guests are responsible for purchasing the appropriate Maine hunting or fishing license and required permits before arriving.
