Description

Hunt a free-range Pyrenean Chamois, locally known as the Izard, in the French Pyrenees. This 3-day hunt includes professional 1x1 guiding, full-board accommodation, the temporary French hunting license and one Pyrenean Chamois trophy with no trophy-size surcharge. The hunting area is located approximately 1 to 2 hours from Toulouse and covers several thousand hectares of open mountain terrain. The Pyrenean Chamois is recognized by Safari Club International as a distinct Record Book category and is eligible for SCI's Chamois of the World award.

What to Expect

Expect a genuine free-range mountain hunt with extensive glassing followed by a planned spot-and-stalk approach. Hunting is conducted 1x1 with a professional guide. Hunters should expect approximately 3 to 5 hours of walking per day on steep and occasionally loose terrain. Typical shooting opportunities range from approximately 110 to 330 yards. November is generally the preferred period, when mature males are more active during the rut. Weather can change quickly in the Pyrenees, so the daily hunting plan is adapted to wind, visibility and mountain conditions.

Gear & Equipment

Hunters should bring broken-in waterproof mountain boots, layered clothing suitable for rapidly changing mountain weather, waterproof outerwear, gloves, a warm hat, a small day pack, binoculars and a shooting support such as a bipod or shooting pack. Trekking poles can be useful on steep or loose ground. The guide provides a spotting scope and rangefinder.

Weapon Details

A flat-shooting mountain rifle is recommended. Suitable calibers include .270 Winchester, (url removed) Swedish, 7mm Remington Magnum and similar medium-game cartridges. A variable-power scope is strongly recommended. Hunters should be comfortable shooting from a prone or supported position and should know their rifle's trajectory out to approximately 330 yards. Typical shooting distances range from about 110 to 330 yards.

Pricing Details

$4,500 per hunter. The package includes 3 full hunting days, professional 1x1 guiding, full-board hotel accommodation, the temporary French hunting license, one free-range Pyrenean Chamois trophy with no trophy-size surcharge, field preparation of the trophy, and ground transportation during the hunt. Non-hunting companion and optional free-range European Mouflon are available on request.

Booking is confirmed only after availability has been verified and the required deposit has been received. Final payment terms and cancellation conditions are provided in the written booking agreement before payment. This is a genuine free-range mountain hunt and no trophy size or harvest can be guaranteed. Mountain weather can affect the daily hunting schedule. Fog, strong wind, snow or unsafe conditions may delay, shorten or prevent an outing. The guide has final authority on safety decisions, and the hunting program will be adapted whenever reasonably possible during the booked hunting period. Hunters are responsible for international travel, personal hunting/travel insurance, gratuities, and trophy export/shipping costs unless specifically stated otherwise. The $4,500 package includes one Pyrenean Chamois trophy with no trophy-size surcharge.

Camp/Accommodations

Comfortable local hotel in the French Pyrenees, selected for its proximity to the hunting area and its experience hosting hunters. Full board is included, with breakfast, packed lunch or lunch adapted to the hunting schedule, and dinner. Early breakfasts and late meals can be arranged around the hunt. Non-hunting companions are welcome, and the area offers mountain villages, local gastronomy, spas and easy access to Toulouse.

Physical Requirements

Moderate to demanding mountain hunt. Hunters should be comfortable walking 3 to 5 hours per day on steep and occasionally loose terrain at elevations between approximately 2,000 and 5,900 feet. Good cardiovascular fitness, sure footing and broken-in mountain boots are recommended. The guide will always adapt the pace and stalk whenever possible.

Permit & Tag Application Process

No draw or tag application is required. The temporary French hunting license is included in the package and arranged before arrival. We handle the required hunting paperwork in advance once the hunter's personal information and documents have been received.
