Colorado, United States • Steamboat Lake Outfitters is a year-round, full-time professional hunting and outfitting service, specializing in fully guided Base Camp hunts, Zirkel wilderness hunts, or drop camps. In order to provide the best and most successful hunt possible. SLO operates in Northwest Colorado, on private property, BLM Land and the National Forest. Elk and Deer hunts are primarily in GMU's 14 and 214. Mountain lion and trophy elk hunts take place in the Brown's Park area GMU's 2 and 201. Black bear hunts are based in unit #214 near Clark. Trophy deer hunters are taken into the Mt. Zirkel Wilderness Area GMU # 14.

This remote and unspoiled territory is rich in wildlife and is a perfect place for sportsmen seeking elk, deer, or bear. Nestled deep in the mountains are nine camps that range in elevation from 8,000 to 11,000 feet above sea level and are accessible only by horseback. We use approximately 45 horses during the various seasons, to get our hunters in and out efficiently and to handle their gear. All our camps are by permit, through the USDA Forest Service in Rio Blanco County, CO.

Kim • We only schedule a few hunters per year to hunt on this trophy ground. We manage these thousands of acres for trophy potential. It is not uncommon to harvest 350" class bulls here, with bulls having realistic potential to reach the fabled 400" mark! On our property we have everything the animals need to grow large, excess food, 6 permanent and large water sources, security cover, and travel corridors. The elk are left alone to grow large for most of the year, except for the few weeks we allow hunters to chase after and pressure these elk. Most hunting occurs during the second elk rut, which happens to be the prime rut window .
